About the Composer

Antonio J. Higgins is a composer and poet centered around the greater Dayton area. He is currently studying music composition under the direction of Dr. Austin Jaquith at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. In late 2024, he published his first poetry collection, “To Better Dreams: Poems and Hymns.” His original works and his arrangements have been performed in concerts and recitals at Cedarville University, as well as in partnership with local ensembles Ps33 Music and Sonance Studios.

As a classically-trained tenor, Higgins has been instructed by Dr. Mark Spencer and Dr. Louima Lilite. He has sung in multiple ensembles and in a variety of styles, from solo operatic works, Renaissance choral music, and modern worship. He plans to use his gifts as a worship leader, presenting congregational music that benefits and uplifts the saints. He is currently a member of the Cedarville University Concert Chorale, Madrigal Choir, and Opera Ensemble.

Antonio’s musical journey started when he was young, singing at nursing homes, senior citizen centers, and church events. His music is meant for those who are searching for fresh Christian music and poetry that reflect the mystery and majesty of God and how it relates to us. He plans to present realism and yet a sense of optimism amid the present age of cynicism and postmodernism. Higgins writes for those trying to find historically inspired sacred music that nourishes faith in beautiful and truthful ways. Antonio’s musical philosophy comes from the concept that art is local and that good art lets us know that “here we have no abiding city,” leading us to our heavenly home.
