The Merit of Mercy

How great to see the mercy
Of Jesus Christ my Lord!
How good when I am thirsty
To read His holy Word!
How blest to have the Spirit
Indwelling deep within,
And glad to trust the merit
Of Christ to save from sin.

His holiness surrounds me,
His goodness as a flood,
His love is all around me
And points me to His blood:
The source of my redemption;
A sacrifice was made!
My sins, without exemption
On Jesus Christ were laid.

How harsh was the rejection,
The beatings, and the scorn;
He offered no objection
When giv’n a crown of thorn!
The Father’s plan was finished,
Atonement was complete;
The Savior’s “blood unblemished”
Fell on the mercy seat!

How awful the affliction,
How saddening the pain;
Yet great the resurrection
That grace would still remain.
He reigns enthroned in heaven
And pleads for you and me;
In Him we are forgiven,
In Him we are set free!

….Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God… For this reason He is the Mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the sins…” – Hebrews 9:14-15
